Biography

Dr. Sung Jin Kim is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Technology and Society, SUNY Korea. He joined SUNY Korea in Spring 2021. Dr. Kim is a Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Defense Analyses. He has more than ten years of experiences studying technology policy for budgeting and investment. Before beginning his research career, he worked as an asset manager and an analyst at Korea Asset Management Corporation and a venture capital firm, respectively. He holds a Ph.D. Degree in Technology, Policy, and Innovation from Stony Brook University, and an MBA degree concentrating on technology from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

Past and Present Research

Dr. Kim has studied a wide range of topics, including national drone policy, system safety, and a military-to-civilian conversion road map, to mention a few. The majority of his findings have been presented to Korea's senior government officials in order to assist them in making decisions. Except for those working papers, some of his prior efforts have been published in SSCI and Scopus indexed journals and conferences. These include 2021 IEEE International Conference on Social Science and Intelligent Management (2021), Journal of the Korea Association of Defense Industry Studies (2021; 2014), International Journal of Innovation and Technology Management (2019), Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology (2018; 2017) and Technology and Society (2015).
