SUNY Korea Hosts AI Research Seminar to Advance U.S.–Korea Collaboration and Innovation
On Monday, July 6, the SUNY Korea Research & Business Development Foundation hosted the AI Research, Innovation, and U.S.–Korea Collaboration Opportunities seminar. The event was held in an online and offline setting, bringing together approximately 70 participants, including faculty members, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and industry representatives. The seminar was organized to share the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation in the United States while exploring opportunities for joint research and industry-academia collaboration between Korea and the United States. Lav R. Varshney, Direcot of the AI Innovation Institute and Professor at Stony Brook University, and François Rameau, Professor of Computer Science at SUNY Korea, joined as speakers for this seminar. Professor Varshney delivered a presentation titled "AI Innovation and Diffusion at Stony Brook and Beyond," introducing Stony Brook University's AI research ecosystem, major research achievements, and initiatives that support AI innovation across the university. He also discussed the diffusion of AI technologies into industry, the U.S. AI research support system, and future opportunities for international collaborative research. Professor Rameau followed with a presentation titled "Korea's AI Landscape: Insights from SUNY Korea," highlighting Korea's AI research environment and research initiatives. He also shared opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration among research laboratories and future directions for international joint research involving students and researchers. The seminar concluded with a Q&A and networking session, where participants engaged in in-depth discussions on current AI research trends, identifying potential U.S.–Korea joint research projects, strengthening collaboration between universities and industry, and expanding opportunities for researcher and student exchanges. Through this seminar, SUNY Korea aims to further strengthen its AI research collaboration with Stony Brook University while expanding partnerships with universities, research institutions, and industry leaders across both Korea and the United States.
