Dean Eugene Pak Delivers Special Lecture at GM Technical Center Korea
On September 9, 2025, Dr. Y. Eugene Pak, Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Korea, delivered a special seminar at the General Motors Technical Center Korea (GMTCK) in Incheon. The event brought together approximately 70 participants from GMTCK, who were strongly interested in the intersection of advanced engineering and automotive innovation. Dr. Pak’s lecture, titled “Technology Innovations in Formula One Racing Cars and Their Applications in Production Vehicles,” explored how cutting-edge developments in powertrains, chassis, suspension, materials, and aerodynamics not only define the world of Formula One (F1) but also shape the future of consumer vehicles. He highlighted the transfer of F1 innovations, such as lightweight composite materials and advanced aerodynamics, into mainstream automotive design. Furthermore, the session also compared F1 with Formula E, offering insights into the rapid evolution of electric racing and its potential influence on the future of mobility. To provide a broader perspective, Dr. Pak incorporated a historical overview of F1, legendary drivers, and iconic circuits that continue to inspire engineers and enthusiasts alike. The seminar at GMTCK underscored SUNY Korea’s commitment to bridging academia and industry through impactful knowledge-sharing. By connecting the thrill of motorsport innovation with practical applications in production vehicles, Dr. Pak inspired participants to view engineering as both a technical challenge and a platform for advancing future mobility. Dr. Y. Eugene Pak earned his B.S. at SUNY Buffalo and his M.S. and Ph.D. at Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering. His current research focuses on the theoretical and computational mechanics of smart materials, including nanoscale modeling of virus shells for drug delivery applications.
