[Major Career Experiences]
I mostly teach graduate courses such as EMP 502 (Engineering Economics) and EST 605 (Economics and Public Policy). Students who take courses will surely have thorough knowledge on the principles of economics and their application to the real projects. All the students in the class are participating on their own research project as a member of a group, and the project title and research method are determined by the students based on the course related discussions and consultations with me.
I have been very active on the global stage, which helped me gain a broad and global spectrum of experiences in policy research and program/project implementation.
My research activities have focused on developing technology programs and implementing projects at an international level: (1) building technology infrastructure, (2) promoting international technology cooperation and (3) building SDG’s related consultation and training. In the early 2000s, I designed and initiated the first R&D program between Korea and the United States and operated for many years since. I also led many successful programs and projects with numerous advanced countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and others.
Until 2003, I carried out numerous projects pertaining to how to build technology infrastructure such as establishing science parks and prioritizing R&D policies through technology forecasting and other tools. Many reports and papers were published based on the results of the Delphi method and econometric applications.
During the period of 2003-2012, various programs and projects between Korea and major countries were developed and implemented. As a director in charge of industrial technology cooperation, I led efforts in developing and implementing various programs with the United States, and major European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany and France.
Since 2012, I am concentrating on the HRD (Human Resources Development) programs such as the STEAM education and industrial ODA domestically and globally. A STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) education project with a local elementary school was successfully carried out in 2020 so that the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) aired the outcome of the project throughout the nation. Also, the Africa Mission (2017) – a volunteering program (2016-2019) for Burkina Faso and Ghana – that I directed as part of an official development assistance was aired via a special program titled “Thanks to the unprecedented value” on KBS. In 2013-2015, I conducted the training programs for high government officials from Vietnam along with over 200 government employees to deliver on policy implementation and culture in Korea.
Now, I am working on a new project for students from local elementary and middle schools to help them broaden their understanding in the field of STEAM. I wish to establish an institute for STEAM education at SUNY Korea to foster creativity in future talents.
